Agent for Open Files
The following section provides information to consider when installing the Agent for Open Files on Windows Client Operating Systems (Windows 7 / 8 / 8.1 / 10) and Windows Server Core:
- You can remotely install the Agent for Open Files onWindows Client operating systems but may need to disable local account filtering first. User Account Control (UAC) is a Windows feature that blocks local administrative accounts from remotely accessing administrative shares (C$, Admin$).
- Before you begin, determine whether the Windows machine is part of a domain or part of a workgroup. Use a Domain Administrative account if the target computer is part of a domain. Grant a domain account with administrator privileges on the Windows machine and use that domain account to log on. You may then remotely install the Agent for Open Files on the Windows machine.
- If the target computer is part of a workgroup, disable the client computer's local account filtering policy by creating a new registry key, as follows:
- DWORD value: LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy
- Location: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\system\
- New Value: 1
- After installation, set the LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy setting to 0 to re-enable local account filtering.
- When installing the Agent for Open Files, a reboot is recommended, but not necessary. Without rebooting, any files open before the installation of Agent may not be accessible during backup.
- When installing Arcserve Backup as an Agent for Open Files on Windows Server Core, you should run mastersetup.exe directly from DVD\Install. If you use setup.exe from the DVD root, DemoShield launches, which requires Internet Explorer to run.
- Note: Internet Explorer is not available in Windows Server Core operating systems.
