Arcserve Backup Agent for Virtual Machines
The following section provides information to consider when installing the Arcserve Backup Agent for Virtual Machines.
- VMware Systems: Install the Agent for Virtual Machines on the system that is intended to operate as the backup proxy system. Populate the Arcserve Backup database using the Arcserve VMware Configuration Tool on the backup proxy system. Deploy the Agent for Virtual Machines using Agent Deployment. For more information, see the Arcserve Backup Agent for Virtual Machines Guide.
- Hyper-V Systems: Install the Arcserve Backup Server components on the system that is intended to operate as the primary or standalone server. Install the Agent for Virtual Machines on the Hyper-V host system. Populate the Arcserve Backup database using the Arcserve Hyper-V Configuration Tool on the Hyper-V host system. Deploy the Agent for Virtual Machines using Agent Deployment. For more information, see the Arcserve Backup Agent for Virtual Machines Guide.
- When installing Arcserve Backup Agent for Virtual Machines on Windows Server Core, run mastersetup.exe directly from DVD\Install. When you use setup.exe from the DVD root, the DemoShield launches requiring Internet Explorer to run. Internet Explorer is not available in Windows Server Core operating systems.
- When installing Arcserve Backup Agent for virtual machines on a Windows operating system, create SMB (Server Message Block) shares by adding the IPV6 (Internet Protocol Version 6) address to the host file and the backup job runs successfully.
- Note: Adding the IPV6 address to the host file applies to both Hyper-V Virtual Machines and Writer Backups on the SMB shares.
- When installing Arcserve Backup Agent for virtual machines on a Windows operating system, VDDK 7.0 Update 2 is installed for an x64 machine. Ensure that all VMware ESX Servers have the latest updates installed. VDDK 7.0 Update 2 does not support VMware ESXi 6.0. However if you have this version, then download VDDK 6.0 manually and then follow the instructions in the troubleshooting topic Using Different Versions of VDDK for VMware Backups" from the Agent for Virtual Machines user guide.
