Configure Arcserve Backup to Generate UDP Catalog Files
When Arcserve Backup backs up UDP backup sessions, the backup process does not generate catalog files for the UDP sessions. The process of generating catalog files is a time consuming task that can increase the time that is required to back up the UDP backup sessions (backup window). To help reduce the backup window, (by default) Arcserve Backup does not generate catalog files.
Arcserve Backup requires catalog files to recover UDP backup sessions at file level, folder level, and application level granularity. When you need to recover UDP backup sessions at file level, folder level, and application level granularity, you can configure Arcserve Backup to generate the catalog files for the UDP backup sessions during the backup operation.
The following steps describe how to configure Arcserve Backup to generate and to not generate catalog files during backup operations.
Follow these steps:
- Log into the UDP Recovery Point Server and open Windows Registry Editor.
- Note: Using the UDP Recovery Point Server to perform a backup on a UDP nodes, supports generating catalog files, only if the UDP Recovery Point Server is available. If the UDP Recovery Point Server is not available, then generating the catalog file fails.
- Browse to the following key:
- Define the key value of GenerateCatalog of REG_DWORD type as one of the following:
- Generate catalogs: 1
- (Default) Do not generate catalogs: 0
- Close Windows Registry Editor.
Important! Log into the UDP Recovery Point Server when you back up the node using the UDP Recovery Point Servers object in the Backup Manager Source tree.
