Assign Arcserve UDP Proxy to the Arcserve UDP Proxy Servers Object
From the Backup Manager, you assign Arcserve UDP Proxy to Arcserve UDP Proxy Servers object in the Backup Manager Source tree. When you assign UDP proxy to the UDP Proxy Servers object, Arcserve Backup backs up all of the backup sessions for all UDP proxies using one proxy server. In addition, when Arcserve Host-Based VM Backup is installed on the UDP proxy, Arcserve Backup backs up the backup sessions for all virtual machines running UDP that are assigned to the proxy server.
Arcserve Backup performs full backups of UDP backup sessions when UDP proxies are assigned to the UDP Proxy Servers object. The Arcserve Backup backup sessions can then be used to perform full system recovery operations, such as bare metal recovery (BMR).
Note: To assign Arcserve UDP proxies to Arcserve UDP proxy servers, Windows Remote Registry service must be running on the Arcserve UDP node.
Follow these steps:
- Open the Arcserve Backup Manager Console.
- From the Quick Start menu, click Backup to open the Backup Manager.
- Click the Source tab.
- The Source tree appears.
- Do one of the following:
- If you do not want to add Arcserve UDP proxy servers to the Arcserve UDP Proxy Servers object, go to Step 7.
- To add Arcserve UDP proxy servers, right-click the Arcserve UDP Proxy Servers object and click Add UDP Proxy Server on the pop-up menu.
- The Add UDP Proxy Server dialog opens.
- Complete the following fields on the Add UDP Proxy Server dialog:
- Host name--Specify the host name of the UDP proxy server.
- (Optional) IP address--Specify the IP address of the UDP proxy server.
- User name--Specify the user name that is required to log into the UDP proxy server.
- Password--Specify the password that is required to log into the UDP proxy server.
- (Optional) This is a Host-Based Agentless Proxy--Specify this option only when Arcserve Host-Based VM Backup is running on the backup proxy system and the proxies that you want to protect are virtual machines.
Note: To specify the IP address, clear the checkmark next to the Use computer name resolution option.
- Click OK.
- To assign Arcserve UDP proxies to Arcserve UDP proxy servers, right-click the proxy server and click Assign UDP Server on the pop-up menu.
- The Assign UDP Server to a Proxy Server dialog opens.
- Note: If the Arcserve UDP proxy server is an Arcserve Host-Based VM Backup proxy server, you cannot assign individual VMs directly to the proxy server.
- Complete the following fields on the Assign UDP Server to a Proxy Server dialog:
- Host name--Specify the host name of the UDP server.
- (Optional) IP address--Specify the IP address of the UDP server.
- User name--Specify the user name that is required to log into the UDP server.
- Password--Specify the password that is required to log into the UDP server.
Note: To specify the IP address, clear the checkmark next to the Use computer name resolution option.
- Click OK.
- The Assign UDP Server to a Proxy Server dialog closes.
The Add UDP Proxy Server dialog closes and the newly added Arcserve UDP proxy server appears in the Source tree. If you specified This is a Host-Based Agentless Proxy, Arcserve Backup adds the Host-Based Agentless Proxy server to the Arcserve UDP Proxy Servers object and populates the proxy server with the host names of the virtual machines that are associated with the newly added proxy server.
The Arcserve UDP server is assigned to the Source tree below the Arcserve UDP proxy server.
Note: Arcserve Backup does not support browsing the drives and directories within Arcserve UDP proxies after they are added to the Source tree.
