Troubleshooting

This section provides some common questions and answers about situations you might encounter while using Arcserve Backup. Most of the problems you might encounter are hardware related, especially if you are using SCSI host adapters. Therefore, the following questions and answers focus on solving hardware and media problems:

• I am having trouble writing information to, or reading information from, my media.
• I am experiencing slow backup and restore rates
• Broadcast messages from the file server aren't appearing at workstations where Arcserve Backup is running
• I've installed Arcserve Backup, but I'm having trouble seeing my media drives
• I'm having trouble with one of my media drives
• The Media Driver will not load
• I get a message "Cannot find Netware.dll when I try to set up Arcserve Backup"

When working on hardware problems, consider the following:

• Verify your hardware is functional, including the host adapter card, the cables, and the tape drive itself. Test hardware by connecting it to a system you know works.
• Verify the hardware is configured properly, including setting the proper switches on the controller card (according to the manufacturer's instructions) and verifying that the SCSI bus is terminated properly at both ends.
