Add a Windows or UNIX Client Agent Using Auto-Discovery

To add a new client agent using the Auto-Discovery Service:

  1. Highlight the Machine Name in the Agent Select dialog list.
  2. Click Add.

The Machine name is removed from the Agent Select list when added.

  3. Click Close to close Agent Select dialog.

The Agent Select dialog is created using the Auto-Discovery Service feature, which automatically generates a list of available agents. The Auto Discovery Service only displays client agents that are up and running on the remote machine when the list is generated.

Note: It is strongly recommended that the Auto-Discovery Service settings be checked and verified if an agent you want to use is not shown in the generated list of available agents. For this purpose Arcserve Backup provides the Discovery Configuration utility (dsconfig.exe) located in the SharedComponents/ARCserve Backup/CADs directory.

In the Discovery Configuration dialog, the Subnet tab and the Subnet Mask tab displays the IP subnet addresses and IP subnet masks discovered by Discovery Service. You must verify that:

  1. The local subnet mask shown in Subnet Mask tab is correct.
  2. The subnet address and correct relative subnet mask for the machine where questionable agent resides is listed in Subnet tab.

Note: The subnet mask for the remote subnet could be different from the local subnet mask listed within the Subnet Tab.

You can manually add or modify any subnet address or subnet mask in Subnet tab or Subnet Mask tab and then initiate the discovery process again using the Discover Now button.

See the Discovery Configuration Help for more information.
