The following list describes configurations supported by the Arcserve Backup base product:
Tape RAID Option support--RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Devices) refers to a system of multiple drives that process data as a single high-performance drive. The Arcserve Backup Tape RAID Option is fault tolerant--if one media becomes inoperable, you can use the remaining media to back up your data. In addition, the Arcserve Backup Tape RAID Option allows you to use a Tape RAID system for high-speed backups.
Snapshot Image Backup Option support--Arcserve Backup Snapshot Image Backup Option allows you to perform high-speed image backups. The Snapshot Image Backup Option achieves high backup speeds by connecting directly to the volume you want to backup, bypassing the file systems and reading in data directly. In this way it creates an "image" of the volume and achieves high speeds by writing this volume image to media rather than backing up the volume file by file. The Arcserve Backup Snapshot Image Backup Option must be purchased separately.
Disaster Recovery (DR) Option support--For disaster recovery methods, Arcserve Backup includes built-in support for the Arcserve Backup Disaster Recovery Option. The Arcserve Backup DR Option must be purchased separately.
Library Option support--Arcserve Backup has a built-in changer that consists of one tape drive supporting an unlimited number of slots. A separately purchased Tape Library option is available to enhance the built-in changer to support a larger changer with multiple drives. For Arcserve Backup, small changer support is built-in and provided free to all users. With the Tape Library option installed, Arcserve Backup administrators can use a changer device as a destination with your backup rotation. Advance media operations are also available depending on the changer device and its configuration. The Arcserve Backup Tape Library option must be purchased separately.
