Arcserve Backup supports single-step group spanning, also known as the open door condition. This feature allows you to insert new media into a library group and then continue the backup or restore operation without first executing any Device Management commands.
To insert new media into a library, you must open the door of the library. Although the Tape Engine does not automatically inventory the library when the library door is opened and closed, it does inventory the slots in the library group, specifically when you are prompted to insert media to complete the backup job.
Note: If your library has multiple drives, do not attempt media spanning unless you are sure that no additional jobs are being submitted to the same group on a separate drive.
