Server Start and Stop
The Server consists of the following engines:
- Database Engine
- Job Engine
- Tape Engine
Although the Server is considered running as long as any one of these engines is running, its functionality is limited. Therefore, to achieve the fullest potential of Arcserve Backup, you should have all three engines running concurrently.
To start or stop the Server, you can:
- Use the Arcserve Backup Server Admin--This method also allows you to stop and resume the engines. For details about this method, refer to Use the Server Admin to Manage Server Status.
- Start the Arcserve Backup Manager--The engines start automatically when you start the Arcserve Backup Manager or when you log in.
- Use Services in the Control Panel--This method allows you to automatically, as well as manually, start the Arcserve Backup Server as soon as you boot up your machine. For details about this method, refer to Use Services to Manage Server Status.
- Use the NET START command at the DOS prompt--For details about this method, refer to Start and Stop Servers from the DOS prompt.
