Term |
Definition |
---|---|
Concurrent Drive Initialization |
The process where two or more library drives work in parallel to read in the media in the library. |
Dismount |
Prepares the selected library magazine for removal. All media in the selected library magazine are marked as Dismounted. Further operations with media within the magazine are disabled. |
Group |
Consists of storage devices, or library slots. |
Home Slot, Original Slot |
The slot where media was originally placed. |
Inventory |
Instructs the library to update the actual status of the selected slots. If media is present in a slot, it is read. |
Library, JukeBox |
These terms are used to describe a device comprised of a library unit and library drive. In this help file the device is referred to as library. |
Library Drive |
A drive that is located within the library. This drive works as part of the library. |
Library Group |
A group consisting of library slots, rather than storage devices. |
Magazine |
A removable container in the library for holding a set of media. |
Mount |
Prepares the selected library magazine for use by Arcserve Backup. All of the slots in the magazine are checked for media, and all of the media found are read. |
Picker |
The component of the library that moves the media in and out of the slots and library drive. Also known as arm. |
Quick Initialization |
This feature assumes that no media has been moved, added, removed, or swapped since the last shutdown. If media has been moved, added, removed, or swapped, you should either manually inventory the entire library, or the specific slots whose status has changed. When the Library Quick Initialization feature is disabled, the entire library is inventoried the next time Arcserve Backup is started. |
Slot |
Also known as Library Slot. A compartment in the magazine for storing media. |
Tape Engine |
One of the three components of the Arcserve Backup Servers. Tape Engine is a service that controls storage devices as well as libraries. The Library Option runs as part of this service. |
