View Information About Media

When you highlight media or slot, you can see the information about the media (in the slot, if a slot was selected) grouped in two categories: Summary and Details.

Summary information

The Summary tab displays general information about the media along with main characteristics of the media. There are two sections under the Summary tab: Media Information and Media Characteristics.

Detailed information about media in a slot

The Details tab displays detailed information about the media, such as the history information regarding format command, media usage, and error count information. There are three sections under the Details tab: Format Information, Usage, and Error Count.

Note: A soft error means that the drive detected a problem when it was trying to read from/write to the media but was able to correct the problem by retrying the operation (or, in the case of a read, correcting the data through the use of its Error Correction Code). Use these fields to determine the "quality" of your media. Remember, it is normal for a drive to always generate a certain number of soft read/write errors. However, you should be concerned if the number of errors is very high in relation to the amount of data being read/written.
