Volume Sets and Stripe Sets

Windows allows for the creation of volume sets and stripe sets.

Type

Description

Volume set

A volume set is created by combining space on a physical drive or drives into a logical volume. The logical volume is treated like a single partition: that is, it appears as one drive letter.

Stripe set

A stripe set is similar to a volume set, but each partition is of a similar size to allow data to be written in stripes across each partition. Stripe sets require at least two physical drives.

For more information about volume sets and stripe sets, see the Windows documentation.
