Configure an Alternate Location

If the Arcserve Backup server fails, computer-specific disaster recovery information can be lost as well. The option stores machine specific disaster recovery information to remote location on an alternate computer. This feature allows you access disaster recovery information if the Arcserve Backup server fails. To configure an alternate location for disaster recovery, perform the following procedure:

1. From the Wizards menu on the Arcserve Backup Home page, select Create Boot Kit, and then click the Config button on the Create Book Kit Wizard.
2. Select the Use Alternate Location check box, then complete the fields on the Alternate Location dialog. These fields are listed below:
   • Alternate Machine Name--The hostname of the remote computer on which the shared folder resides.

     Note: Although you can use the computer IP address, we do not recommend it, especially in a DHCP environment.

   • Windows Domain/Computer Name--If the user account used is part of a domain, enter the domain name. If a local account is used, enter the name of the local computer. If the User Name field already contains domain information, any information specified in this field is ignored.
   • User Name--The user account used to connect to the remote computer. The domain part of the user name can be omitted. For example, if the full user account name is domainX\userX, enter userX.
   • Password--The password for the specified user account.
   • Shared Folder On Remote Server--The name of the shared folder configured to store the replicated disaster recovery information.
3. Click Finish.
