Compress and Encrypt your Backup Job

To specify a Session password for a selected drive, perform the following procedure:

  2. Highlight the drive and right-click the mouse.

The Source Context pop-up menu opens.

  3. Choose Option... from the Source Context menu.

    The Local Option dialog opens.

  4. Enter the password for this drive in the Session/Encryption Password field.

The specified password is required to restore data from this drive.

To specify a Session password for the entire backup job, perform the following procedure:

  1. Click Options.
  2. Select the Backup Media tab in the Options dialog.
  3. Enter a password in the Session/Encryption Password field.

To increase media capacity, you can set the backup job to Compress Files Before Backup Using Software Compression. With this option turned on, the data being transported and archived is compressed. The Arcserve Backup intelligent compression mode will automatically turn off this option if the hardware compression options on the storage device is set to on. On a compressed NTFS volume, the data being archived is stored compressed.

To set the compression on, perform the following procedure:

  1. Click Options.
  2. Select the Backup Media tab in the Options dialog.
  3. Check the option Compress Files Before Backup Using Software Compression.

Important! Arcserve Backup performs local compression and encryption at the agent system. When you specify local compression and encryption and ARCserve server-based compression and encryption (global option), Arcserve Backup performs the compression and encryption at the agent system.
