Swap Media During Media Spanning
The following is an example of swapping media that is full for new media during media spanning to allow the completion of a backup job:
- You are backing up an entire machine to a library that holds a single magazine with four slots.
- Before you run the job, you mount a full magazine (four tapes in its slots) into the library, which causes an inventory of the slots in the magazine.
- Since you were only supposed to use two of the tapes, you can assign the slots of two of the tapes to GROUP0 and the other two slots to GROUP1.
- You could then run the backup job using GROUP0. However, if Arcserve Backup requires more than two tapes to complete the backup, you will be prompted to insert another tape into the library in the middle of the job.
- You could then open the library door and swap one of the tapes in GROUP0 with a new tape, then close the library door, and click OK. This will initiate an inventory of the slots in GROUP0, followed by a continuation of the backup job.
