Set Up a GFS Rotation Job

After all the devices have been defined and they all belong to one group, it is possible to create the GFS Rotation Job using the Arcserve Backup GUI.

To set up a GFS rotation, perform the following procedure:

  1. Open the Backup Manager.
  2. Select your source from the Source tab.
  3. On the Destination tab, select the group name of the device group you configured previously.
  4. On the Schedule tab, select the Use rotation Scheme button.
  5. From the Scheme Name field, press the arrow to show the drop-down menu for available schemes.
  6. Choose the scheme labeled, 7-day weekly differential backup, full backup on Sunday, with GFS enabled.

The drop-down menu will close, displaying the selected scheme name.

  7. In the field labeled Execution Time, enter the desired time for the backup to run.
  8. In the Media Pool Used field, enter a name such as Pool1.

Note: Arcserve Backup prevents you from using the underscore character ( _ ) and the hyphen character ( - ) when specifying Media Pool names.

  9. Press the Start button on the toolbar.
  10. Verify the security credential for the selected backup sources. Click OK to continue.
  11. Enter a statement such as Nightly GFS Rotation Job in the Job Description field. Click OK to continue.
  12. A message will appear stating that the required media pools have been created. Click OK to continue.

The GFS rotation job will now be located in the job queue and can be viewed by launching the Job Status Manager from the Quick Start Menu.
