Advanced Backup Operations

Arcserve Backup supports the following advanced backup operations and tasks:

• Advance scheduled backups (Grandfather-Father-Son or GFS)--You can schedule repetitive backup jobs that are custom-made for your environment.
• GFS Media prediction report--Now you can run reports to produce detailed media information for media pools used in your rotation schemes including the media status and session information.
• Arcserve Backup job queue security--You can restrict access to the Arcserve Backup job queue by granting varying security permissions to Arcserve Backup for different user/group identities for the job queue.
• Multiple node copy support--This function enables users to copy files from multiple locations to a single target directory.
• Preferred machines--You can setup all the volumes of a specified machine as a share in the Arcserve Backup browser. It displays under the Preferred Shares node of the Arcserve Backup browser.

  Note: Arcserve Backup server names and Arcserve Backup domain names cannot exceed 15 bytes. A name totaling 15 bytes equates to approximately 7 to 15 characters.

• Intelligent restore--The Arcserve Backup database system allows you to quickly locate and restore your archive data. Although the files that you restore always come from media, the way you select these source files can vary. Arcserve Backup provides you with the most convenient and thorough methods for finding the files you want to restore. There are four methods by which you can choose your source files: Restore by Tree, by Session, by Query and by Backup Media.
