Arcserve Backup enables you to back up any Windows machine on your Microsoft network. Backing up a Windows machine can be done one of two ways:
Administrative-shared drives
By default, Windows creates an administrative share for the root directory of each drive on the machine. Unless the administrative share is deleted, you can select it for backup and Arcserve Backup is able to back up all the files and directories on the drive.
User-shared drives and directories
In addition to creating default administrative shares, Windows also allows you to designate specific files and directories as shareable. The owner of these files and directories has specified that they are accessible to all. These files and directories are displayed in the Arcserve Backup Browser, and with a click of the mouse button, you can quickly select these specially shared files and directories for backup.
Performing domain or workgroup level backups
Do you want to quickly back up all the machines belonging to a specific domain or workgroup? Since Arcserve Backup separates and lists Windows machines by the domain or workgroup to which they belong, this is easily done by selecting the name of the domain or workgroup. Doing this automatically selects all the machines that are members of the domain or workgroup for backup.
