Reason:

The backup cannot continue because another process or backup has locked the SharePoint topology.

Action:

The lock that is preventing the backup from running may be caused by another process or backup job. If this is the case then wait for the other process to complete and submit the job again. It is also possible the lock exists because a previous process did not release it or the SharePoint configuration database has been restored. If this is the case there is a program called ReleaseLock.exe installed with the SharePoint Agent on the front-end web server that can be used to release the lock. The program will be found in the Router sub-directory of the SharePoint Agent installation directory. Locate and run this program, and the lock will be cleared.
