Failed to receive data from the SQL Server database agent. (DBNAME=object name, EC=error message/code)

Reason:

This error message indicates that an error has occurred which has either caused the Agent for Microsoft SQL Server to stop sending data prematurely or caused data to be lost in transit across the network.

Action:

Perform the following steps on the computer running the Agent for Microsoft SQL Server:

  1. Confirm that the agent is running:
  2. Confirm that the database is running.
  3. Ensure that no other backup or restore jobs are running.
  4. Stop the Arcserve Backup Agent RPC Server service.
  5. Based on the version of the agent, perform the following:
  6. If you are using the Arcserve for Windows agent, check the UseTCP value in the following registry key and set the Remote Protocol for the Microsoft SQL Server:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ComputerAssociates\ARCServeIT\DSAgent\CurrentVersion\ 		Agent\dbasql@[database instance name].
    
  7. If you are using BrightStor Enterprise Backup agent, restart the Arcserve Backup Agent Remote Service.
  8. Resubmit the backup job.

Check the network connections. If the problem persists, contact Arcserve support for online technical assistance and a complete list of locations, primary service hours, and telephone numbers.

SQL Server Agent Protocol Mismatch

Reason:

This error indicates that a backup was attempted using the Arcserve 2000 for Windows Backup Agent for Microsoft SQL Server, when the backup server is using a version of Arcserve Backup prior to r12.

Action:

On the computer running the Arcserve 2000 for Windows agent, set the UseTCP value in the following registry key, based on the version of the Microsoft SQL Server:

SQL 2000:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ComputerAssociates\ARCServeIT\DSAgent\
CurrentVersion\Agent\dbasql@[database instance name]

SQL 7:
