Assign Media to a Media Pool

You can assign media to a media pool in one of two ways:

Via the Device Manager during the process of formatting the media.
Through the Media Pool Manager, Assign Media option.

Assign Media to a Media Pool Using the Device Manager

When you format media using the Device Management function, you define certain media pooling information that is associated with the media. You can define the following media pool information when formatting media:

New Media Name--If the media inserted in the storage device is named, that name will be displayed. If the media is blank, you can assign a media name. If the media is blank, but has an assigned serial number, it can be assigned to any existing media pool.
Expiration Date--You can set an expiration date for the media to be formatted. When this date arrives, Arcserve Backup reminds you that the media has reached expiration.
Media Pool--You can select any existing media pool previously created using the Media Pool Manager.
Serial Number--The serial number shown here is the current serial number, bar code label, or the next available serial number (based on pre-defined rules). You can manually enter a different serial number only if that number is not already in use.
Arcserve Backup scans the database, and if the serial number already exists (in any of the media pools), an error message is displayed prompting you to enter a new, unique serial number.

To Assign Media:

Select the set in the Tree or List view and choose Assign Media from the menu, toolbar, context menu, or Properties View.
A dialog window containing a list of all unassigned media appears.
Select the media you want to assign, then click the Assign button.

To Remove Media:

Select the set in the Tree or List view, then choose Remove Media from the menu, toolbar, context menu, or Properties View.
A dialog window containing a list of all media assigned to a set appears.
Select the media you want to remove, then click the Remove button.
