Although the files that you restore always come from media, the way you select these source files varies. Arcserve Backup provides you with the most convenient and thorough methods for finding the files you want to restore. There are five methods by which you can choose your source files:
Note: An additional Restore method appears on the list in the drop-down box, Restore by Image. This method refers to the Arcserve Backup Image Option, which is sold separately. If you have not purchased the Image Option this Restore method is not available.
The method you choose to select your source depends on what you know about the files you want to restore and the media you need to use.
The Restore by Query source view uses the Arcserve Backup database and a search pattern that you specify to display files you want to restore. The Restore by Query can be as general or specific as you want. You can specify a search pattern directed towards a specific machine, directories, or files. Subdirectories can also be included in the search.
Use the Restore by Query source view when you know the names of the files and directories you want to restore, but do not know the machine it was backed up from or the media it was backed up to.
