Configure a SAN (Windows)

To configure SAN, perform the following procedure:

  1. In the Configuration screen, you must first choose the primary server.
  2. To create a Primary server, select a server from the list displayed on the right panel and click Make Primary. To remove a Primary server, select the server from the left panel and click Delete Primary. A Primary server can be deleted only if it has no Distributed servers.

Note: If you cannot see your server in either the Available Servers list or the Add Server list (accessed by selecting Add Server in the SAN Configuration dialog), you will need to run dsconfig.exe, which is located in the following directory:
    C:\Program Files\CA\Sharedcomponents\ARCserve\CADS

Refer to the SAN Option Configuration Utility Troubleshooting Tips section in the "Troubleshooting" appendix of the Storage Area Network (SAN) Option Guide for step-by-step instructions on using this utility.

  3. Choose the other servers to assign distributed servers to that Primary.
  4. Start the Tape Engine on the Primary server.
  5. After the Library is initialized on the Primary server, you can start the Tape Engine on each of the Distributed servers.

Now all the servers should display the same library in Device Manager.

Note: If the Primary server goes down, jobs that were submitted from the Distributed servers will not start. After the Primary server comes back up and Arcserve Backup is loaded on the primary, you will need to re-start Arcserve Backup on each Distributed server.
