Welcome to the CA ARCserve Central Applications r16 Update
4 Release Notes file. This Release Notes file contains
important information about this update.
2.0 Enhancements and Modifications
Update 4 includes enhancements and modifications to improve
the quality and performance of CA ARCserve Central
Applications.
2.1 CA ARCserve Central Host-Based VM Backup
CA ARCserve Central Applications r16 Update 4 includes the
following enhancements and modifications to improve the
quality and performance of CA ARCserve Central Host-Based
VM Backup:
- CA ARCserve D2D integration--CA ARCserve Central
Applications integrate with the CA ARCserve D2D r16 general
availability release, r16 Update 1, r16 Update 2, r16
Update 3, and r16 Update 4.
Note: To manage and protect nodes running CA ARCserve D2D
r16 Update 4, you must install the Update 4 version of this
application on the CA ARCserve Central Applications server.
- Redesigned toolbar--The Node screen includes a redesigned
toolbar that helps to simplify the process of performing
node-related tasks.
- Ad-hoc backups--You can now submit ad-hoc backups directly
from CA ARCserve Central Host-Based VM Backup rather than
having to log in directly to CA ARCserve D2D to submit the
backup.
Note: Ad-hoc backups are need-based, rather than being
scheduled in advance as part of a backup plan.
- Node Status Summary--The Node screen displays status
information for a node when you click the icon in the
Status column. The Node Status Summary dialog provides you
with information about the last backup, recovery points,
and the capacity of the backup destination.
- Backup Status Monitor--The Backup Status Monitor lets you
view detailed information about in-progress backup jobs. In
addition, you can stop in-progress jobs from the Backup
Status Monitor.
- Discovery--The Discovery process was modified to simplify
the process of discovering nodes automatically.
- Copy policies--You can now copy existing policies and save
them as new policies. This capability simplifies the
process of creating new policies.
- Preflight Check--The Preflight Check (PFC) utility is a new
feature that lets you run vital checks on nodes to detect
conditions that can cause backup jobs to fail. You can view
the results of the PFC for a node by clicking the icon in
the PFC Status column on the Node screen.
- PFC Status--From the PFC Status column on the Node screen,
you can now display the results of the last PFC. The
Preflight Check Summary dialog displays information about
the following:
- Changed Block Tracking is enabled on the virtual machine.
- VMware Tools is installed on the virtual machine.
- Status of the disk.
- Power state of the virtual machine.
- The login credentials are correct.
- Details about the applications that are installed on the
virtual machine.
When PFC detects a condition that can cause backups to
fail, click a link on the dialog to view information about
how to correct the condition.
- Restoring data--The restore process was modified to
simplify the process of restoring data. The Restore option
was removed from the Navigation bar. You now start the
restore process by doing one of the following:
- Click the node on the Node screen and then click Restore on
the pop-up menu.
- Click the check box next to the node on the Node screen and
then click Restore on the toolbar.
- Navigation bar--The Navigation bar was enhanced to
demonstrate the following behavior:
- You can now resize the Navigation bar on the user interface.
- When you click the tab to log in to a different Central
Application, the other application now opens in a new
window.
- When you remove a tab from the Navigation bar, a message
now displays to confirm that you want to remove the tab.

5.1 Deploy CA ARCserve D2D with the Latest Update Using CA ARCserve Central Protection Manager
This section describes how to deploy CA ARCserve D2D with
the latest update to nodes using CA ARCserve Central
Protection Manager, after you update Protection Manager
manually. You update the Protection Manager server manually
only when you cannot use the Update utility to update the
Protection Manager server. For example, the Protection
Manager cannot access the Internet or the update server.
The manual update process is described in the section Installation Instructions.
Be aware of the following considerations:
- The D2D deployment utility does not support upgrading
update releases.
Note: To upgrade from one update release to the next, log
in to the D2D node and click Check for Updates on the Help
menu.
With the deployment utility you can perform only the
following tasks:
- Deploy D2D to nodes and upgrade the installation from a
previous release. For example, D2D r15 is installed on the
node and you want to upgrade to D2D r16.
- Deploy D2D to nodes and D2D is not installed on the nodes.
- When you do not follow the steps described in this section
and upgrade CA ARCserve Central Protection Manager
manually, Protection Manager deploys the CA ARCserve D2D
r16 general availability release to the nodes.
- If the Protection Manager server can access the CA update
servers and you upgrade the Protection Manager server using
the Update utility, you can deploy CA ARCserve D2D with the
latest update to the nodes. For more information, see the
CA ARCserve Central Protection Manager User Guide. In
addition, you do not need to download the D2D update
manually a second time.
- To use the following steps, CA ARCserve Central Protection
Manager Update 4 or later is required.
Follow these steps:
- Download the latest CA ARCserve D2D updates and dll files
from the CA Support Online website. The update process
requires the following files:
- CA ARCserve D2D:
RI42492.exe
http://rmdmdownloads.ca.com/D2DUpdates/D2D/r16/updates/RI42492.exe
Note: RI42492.exe is the file name for Update 4.
AvailableUpdateInfoDll_x64.dll

AvailableUpdateInfoDll_x86.dll
http://rmdmdownloads.ca.com/D2DUpdates/D2D/AvailableUpdateInfoDll_x86.dll
- Copy the D2D update files (described in Step 1) to the
following directories on the Protection Manager server:
You can now deploy CA ARCserve D2D to nodes using the
latest update.
Note: For more information about how to deploy D2D to
nodes, see the CA ARCserve Central Protection Manager User
Guide.
6.0 Issues Fixed
CA ARCserve Central Applications r16 Update 4 fixes the
following issues:
- (T2D2848) CA ARCserve Central Virtual Standby was updated
to retrieve the correct domain credentials from virtual
machines that are managed by domain credentials. This
behavior helps ensure that the policy deployment process
completes successfully.
- (T2D2856) CA ARCserve Central Host-Based VM Backup was
updated to pass updated credentials for the guest operating
system on the virtual machine to the backup proxy system.
The process of creating catalogs fails when the credentials
for the guest operating system on the virtual machine are
incorrect.
- (T2D2858) CA ARCserve Central Protection Manager was
updated to help ensure that the CA ARCserve D2D deployment
policy completes successfully when there is a limited
amount of free disk space on the target server.
- CA ARCserve Central Host-Based VM Backup was updated to
protect virtual machines that are stored on volumes that
are mounted on NFS data stores. Previous versions of this
application could not protect data of this type.
