Welcome to the CA ARCserve Central Applications r16 Update
6 Release Notes file. This Release Notes file contains
important information about Update 6.
2.0 Enhancements and Modifications
Update 6 includes enhancements and modifications to improve
the quality, performance, and usability of CA ARCserve
Central Applications.
2.1 CA ARCserve Central Host-Based VM Backup
CA ARCserve Central Applications r16 Update 6 includes the
following enhancements and modifications to improve the
quality, performance, and usability of CA ARCserve Central
Host-Based VM Backup:
- CA ARCserve D2D integration--CA ARCserve Central
Applications integrate with the CA ARCserve D2D r16 general
availability release, r16 Update 1, r16 Update 2, r16
Update 3, r16 Update 4, r16 Update 5, and r16 Update 6.
Note: To manage and protect nodes running CA ARCserve D2D
r16 Update 6 you must install the Update 6 version of this
application on the CA ARCserve Central Applications server.
- Update 6 provides you with improved integration with VMware
vMotion. For example:
- The node management process was enhanced to simplify the
following tasks:
- Nodes are now unavailable when they are deleted or cannot
be detected from the server.
- The ability to view the status of the policy deployment job
displays in the Policy column.
- You can now view backup jobs waiting in the queue, which is
displayed in the Job column. In addition, the priority
levels of backup jobs are described when you run a Backup
Now.
- You can now update multiple nodes simultaneously using the
existing credentials or specifying new credentials. You can
also force the server to manage the selected nodes.
- The "Unassigned" node group is now called "Nodes without a
policy" and the "Ungrouped" node group is now called "Nodes
without a group".
- The configuration process was enhanced to simplify the
following tasks:
- The ability to set email alerts for newly discovered nodes.
You can configure this setting through the Email and Alert
Configuration screen.
- The ability to configure the CA ARCserve Central Protection
Manager server in CA ARCserve Central Host-Based VM Backup
so that you can view Host-Based VM Backup discovered nodes
email alert information from CA ARCserve Central Reporting.
- You can now view a vCenter/ESX Host list from the Discovery
Configuration screen when setting up a schedule to discover
nodes.
- You no longer need to reset the Changed Block Tracking
(CBT) function when backup jobs fail. Host-Based VM Backup
now automatically enables CBT on the virtual machine.
- You can now set email alert notifications for failed
catalog jobs when creating backup policies (Preferences
tab).
- You can now set email alert notifications for backup jobs
that are waiting in the queue, skipped, or replaced with
another job. You can configure this setting through the
policy Preferences tab.
- A new topic is added to this release describing how to
retrieve used block data after submitting a full disk
backup job. The topic is called Perform Full Disk Backups
Containing Only Used Block Data.
- You can now open a Live Chat session with CA Technologies
Technical Support representatives from all of the screens.

Live Chat provides real-time monitoring and live
help/support. Live Chat lets you optimize intelligent
conversation between you and the CA ARCserve Central
Applications Technical Support team. The chat allows you to
address your concerns and questions immediately while still
maintaining access to the product. Upon completion of the
chat session, you can send a transcript of the chat to your
email address.
Note: You may need to add the Live Chat link to your
Trusted sites.
- CA ARCserve Central Host-Based VM Backup now supports
VMware vSphere Storage Appliance (VSA). Host-Based VM
Backup can back up virtual machines that are on a VSA
datastore. Host-Based VM Backup can restore virtual
machines to a VSA data store.
2.2 CA ARCserve Central Protection Manager
CA ARCserve Central Applications r16 Update 6 includes the
following enhancements and modifications to improve the
quality, performance, and usability of CA ARCserve Central
Protection Manager:
- CA ARCserve D2D integration--CA ARCserve Central
Applications integrate with the CA ARCserve D2D r16 general
availability release, r16 Update 1, r16 Update 2, r16
Update 3, r16 Update 4, r16 Update 5, and r16 Update 6.
Note: To manage and protect nodes running CA ARCserve D2D
r16 Update 6 you must install the Update 6 version of this
application on the CA ARCserve Central Applications server.
- The node management process was enhanced to simplify the
following tasks:
- The ability to view the status of the policy deployment job
displayed in the Policy column.
- You can now update multiple nodes simultaneously using the
existing credentials or specifying new credentials. You can
also force the server to manage the selected nodes.
- The "Unassigned" node group is now called "Nodes without a
policy" and the "Ungrouped" node group is now called "Nodes
without a group".
- The node deployment process was enhanced to simplify the
following tasks:
- The ability to view the latest version of CA ARCserve D2D
when you deploy to a node and supporting lower versions of
CA ARCserve D2D.
- The ability to select/unselect all nodes on the D2D
Deployment dialog.
- The configuration process was enhanced to simplify the
following tasks:
- The ability to set email alerts for newly discovered nodes.
You can configure this setting through the Email and Alert
Configuration screen.
- A new vendor type is now added for Cloud Configuration for
File Copy: Fujitsu Cloud (Windows Azure).
- You can now view an Active Directory list when setting up a
schedule to discover nodes in the Discovery Configuration
screen.
- You can now open a Live Chat session with CA Technologies
Technical Support representatives from all of the screens.

- CA ARCserve D2D integration--CA ARCserve Central
Applications integrate with the CA ARCserve D2D r16 general
availability release, r16 Update 1, r16 Update 2, r16
Update 3, r16 Update 4, r16 Update 5, and r16 Update 6.
Note: To manage and protect nodes running CA ARCserve D2D
r16 Update 6, you must install the Update 6 version of this
application on the CA ARCserve Central Applications server.
- Two new Event Types are now added to the Alert Report:
- Skip/Merge job waiting in the job queue: This alert
generates a report of jobs that are skipped or merged in
the waiting queue from CA ARCserve Central Host-Based VM
Backup.
- Discovery: This alert generates a report of newly
discovered nodes from CA ARCserve Central Protection
Manager or CA ARCserve Central Host-Based VM Backup.
- You can now open a Live Chat session with CA Technologies
Technical Support representatives from all of the screens.

2.4 CA ARCserve Central Virtual Standby
- CA ARCserve Central Applications r16 Update 6 includes the
following enhancements and modifications to improve the
quality, performance, and usability of CA ARCserve Central
Virtual Standby:
- CA ARCserve D2D integration--CA ARCserve Central
Applications integrate with the CA ARCserve D2D r16 general
availability release, r16 Update 1, r16 Update 2, r16
Update 3, r16 Update 4, r16 Update 5, and r16 Update 6.
Note: To manage and protect nodes running CA ARCserve D2D
r16 Update 6 you must install the Update 6 version of this
application on the CA ARCserve Central Applications server.
- The Virtual Standby Monitor Server is supported by the same
operating systems listed in the CA ARCserve D2D
Compatibility Matrix on the CA Support website.
- The node management process was enhanced to simplify the
following tasks:
- The ability to view the status of the policy deployment job
displayed in the Policy column.
- You can now power on virtual machines directly from the
application. Use the Standby VM button located on the Node
toolbar.
- You can now update multiple nodes simultaneously using the
existing credentials or specifying new credentials. You can
also force the server to manage the selected nodes.
- The "Unassigned" node group is now called "Nodes without a
policy" and the "Ungrouped" node group is now called "Nodes
without a group".
- You can now open a Live Chat session with CA Technologies
Technical Support representatives from all of the screens.

- CA ARCserve Central Virtual Standby now supports VMware
vSphere Storage Appliance (VSA). Virtual Standby can now
create standby virtual machines on VSA datastores. Virtual
Standby can perform a virtual to physical (V2P) of a
standby virtual machine created on a VSA datastore.
3.0 Prerequisites
Before you install this update, verify that the following
applications, as appropriate, are installed:
- CA ARCserve Central Host-Based VM Backup r16 General
Availability (GA) release (with or without any previous r16
updates)
- CA ARCserve Central Protection Manager r16 GA release (with
or without any previous r16 updates)
- CA ARCserve Central Reporting r16 GA release (with or
without any previous r16 updates)
- CA ARCserve Central Virtual Standby r16 GA release (with or
without any previous r16 updates)

5.0 Installation Instructions
There are two methods that you can use to install Update 6.
- Install Update 6 using the update utility from the Home
Page.
- Install Update 6 manually using the installation media
posted on the CA Support website.
To install Update 6 using the update utility from the Home
Page, follow these steps:
- Open and log in to the application.
- From the top right corner of the Home Page, click Help, and
then click Check Updates.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to install Update 6.
To install Update 6 manually, download and install the
installation media listed below.

6.0 Issues Fixed
CA ARCserve Central Applications r16 Update 6 fixes the
following issues:
Virtual Standby:
- License failure messages no longer display in the Virtual
Standby Summary panel when the node is selected under the
Action Required group on the Virtual Standby monitor server.
