Add a Virtual Standby to EC2 Task to the Policy

Create a virtual standby task so that the backup data is converted to a virtual machine format and a virtual machine is created. The virtual standby feature also monitors the heartbeat of the source so that when the source is down, the virtual machine immediately takes over as the source.

This section provides information about how to add a Virtual Standby task to a policy.

Follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to Protect > Policies.
  2. Click the policy name that you have already created.
  3. On the Tasks tab, to add a secondary task, click the add (+) symbol on the RPS section, and then click the newly added RPS section.
  4. On the What to protect tab, select Virtual Standby from the Activity Type drop-down list.
  5. On the Source tab, from the Virtual Standby Source drop-down list, select a source and then go to the Virtualization Server tab.
  6. On the Virtualization Server tab, from the Target drop-down list, select target as needed, and then do the following:
    1. From the EC2 Region drop-down list, select the EC2 region where your cloud proxy is located. Arcserve Cloud Console supports all the EC2 global regions and EC2 China region.
    2. From the Cloud Proxy drop-down list, select the EC2 instance in the selected region as the cloud proxy, and then click Connect.
    3. Note: The EC2 instance must have Arcserve UDP agent installed.

      • Username: Specify the user name to log into the VSB cloud proxy.
      • Password: Specify the password for the user name to log into the VSB cloud proxy.
      • Port: Specify the port that you want to use for data transfer between the source server and the VSB cloud proxy. The default port value is 8014.
      • Note: As the cloud proxy is used for data transfer, the related ports must be enabled to access inbound in the AWS EC2 security group, including TCP 8014 and 4091.
  7. After the monitor server is successfully connected, click the Virtual Machine tab.
  8. On the Virtual Machine tab, do the following:
  9. Note: These settings are available to configure only when the auto assign public IP is disabled.
