Ad-hoc Virtual Standby to Microsoft Hyper-V
This section provides information about how to configure virtual machine settings for creating an Ad-hoc Standby VM to Microsoft Hyper-V.
Follow these steps:
- On the Virtual Machine Settings page, do the following:
- VM: Specify the name of the Standby VM. The name of the source with a prefix is the default name of the Standby VM. Special characters are not allowed in the name such as ‘@’, ‘\’ and so on.
- Default value: VM_
- (Optional) Description: Specify the description for the Standby VM.
- All Virtual Disks share the same Path: By default, the All Virtual Disks share the same Path check box is selected. Specify the path or browse to the location on the Hyper-V server where you want to store the conversion data.
- Note: The Arcserve Cloud Console solution does not support creating virtual disk images (VHD/VHDX files) on compressed volumes and volumes that are encrypted by the file system. If the path specified resides on compressed or encrypted Hyper-V volumes, Arcserve Cloud Console prevents you from creating the virtual standby task.
- To specify the location on the Hyper-V server where you want to store the conversion data for each virtual disk, do the following:
- Clear the All Virtual Disks share the same Path check box, and then click Add.
- For Disk 1, specify the path or browse to the location on the Hyper-V server where you want to store the conversion data.
- Note: To add multiple source disks, repeat the above steps.
- CPU Count: Specify the minimum and maximum CPU count the standby virtual machine supports.
- Memory: Specify the total amount of RAM in GB to be allocated for the standby virtual machine.
- Note: The amount of RAM specified must be a multiple of two.
- Same number of Network adapters as Source at Last Backup: By default, the Same number of Network adapters as Source at Last Backup check box is selected. You can keep this option enabled if the virtual machine contains virtual NICs and a virtual network to connect.
- Adapter Type: Select the type of network adapter that you want to connect to the standby virtual machine.
- Connected To: Select the virtual network that you want the adapters to connect to.
- To define the name of the virtual network that you want the NIC to use to communicate, do the following:
- Clear the Same number of Network adapters as Source at Last Backup check box, and then click Add.
- For Adapter 1, select the network adapter and virtual network as needed.
- Notes:
- To add multiple adapters, click Add, and then select the network adapter and virtual network as needed.
- The customized network configuration setting specified for each source overrides the custom network setting specified in the policy.
- Click Finish.
You have successfully created an ad-hoc Standby VM.
