Setting Up Snapshot Creation

To set up a snapshot creation

  1. On the Scenario pane, select the Replica for which you want to create VSS snapshots.
  2. On the Framework pane on the left, select the Properties tab.
  3. The Replica Properties list opens.
  4. If the scenario is running, click the Stop button on the toolbar. The scenario is stopped.
  5. On the Replica Properties list, open the Scheduled Tasks group to display the Suspend and the Replica Integrity testing for Assured Recovery properties.
  6. On either the Suspend or the Replica Integrity testing for Assured Recovery property, set the value to On.
  7. The Create Shadow Copy (VSS) property opens along with its related properties.
  8. You can set the VSS function switch in the Scheduled Tasks section.
  9. To change the properties of Create Shadow Copy (VSS), modify them from the Volume Snapshots Management Properties.
  10. Notes:
    • If you set to On the Replica Integrity testing for Assured Recovery property, the Create Shadow Copy (VSS) property appears under the Actions on Successful Test (DB Offline) group.
    • To associate VSS snapshot creation with the Suspend property, you need to schedule the suspension. Manual suspension will not create a VSS snapshot.
  11. To activate the automatic creation of snapshots, set the Create Shadow Copy (VSS) property value to On.
  12. Set the other VSS properties, according to the information provided in Understanding VSS Snapshot Properties.
  13. Click the Save button on the Standard toolbar to save and apply your changes, and start the scenario.

    14. Now, after an AR test or during suspension, a VSS snapshot will be created automatically. The creation of the snapshot is indicated in the Event pane.

    Once a snapshot is created, you can view and manage it through the Snapshots Management window.
