1.0 Welcome
Welcome to the CA ARCserve D2D r16 Update 3 Release Notes
file. This Release Notes file contains important
information about this update which includes vSphere 5
support. In addition, this update also includes all the
fixes that are part of Update 1 and Update 2.
2.0 Prerequisite Tasks
Before you install this update, verify that CA ARCserve D2D
r16 is installed.
3.0 Enhancements
CA ARCserve D2D has been enhanced to include VMware Virtual
Disk Development Kit (VDDK) 5.0 support for CA ARCserve
Central Host-Based VM Backup and CA ARCserve Central
Virtual Standby.
4.0 Issues Fixed
This update fixes the following issues:
- A problem that causes the catalog creation to fail for a
Host-Based Virtual Machine backup job. This problem occurs
if VMware Vix 1.11.x is installed on the CA ARCserve D2D
proxy server for Host-Based VM backups. (Test Fix T2D2843)
- A problem that causes an Exchange Mail restore job to crash
when there are more than 5000 columns defined in the
exchange database (no mail was restored). (Test Fix T2D2846)
- A problem that causes a backup job to crash on a machine
during the Bare Metal Recovery Information collection phase
of a CA ARCserve D2D backup. (Test Fix T2D2849)
- A problem that causes a Bare Metal Recovery information
collection failure for a Host-Based VM Backup job with
warning "Collect Bare Metal Recovery information failed,
this recovery point cannot be used to do Bare Metal
Recovery." This problem occurs if VMware Vix 1.11.x is
installed on the CA ARCserve D2D proxy server for
Host-Based VM Backups. (Test Fix T2D2850)
- A problem that causes a Host-Based VM Backup job to fail
with error “Backup job failed" in the activity log with
no further explanation or log information provided about
the cause of the failure. (Test Fix T2D2851)
- A problem that causes a Host-Based VM Backup to miss few VM
backup jobs without any notification. (Test Fix T2D2852)
- A problem that might cause a merge session to fail with
Error 1450 (Insufficient system resources exist to complete
the requested service). This problem occurs when the CA
ARCserve D2D backup destination is on a remote share
folder, and the source disk is 2TB or larger. (Test Fix
T5E5138)
- A problem that causes the Bare Metal Recovery information
collection phase to run very slow when multiple devices of
same type are included in CA ARCserve D2D backup. (Test Fix
T5E5133)
- A problem occurs that causes a backup job to finish in a
completed successfully status, but the CA ARCserve D2D data
cannot be restored. This problem occurs when the backup
destination is located on a removable disk storage device
(RDX). With this fix, resubmit the backup to perform the
restore. (Test Fix T245717)
5.0 Limitations
The following limitations are known to exist in this update:
- During a Recover VM job for Host-based VM backup, the vDS
network configuration is skipped. After VM recovery, the
vDS network configuration can be added manually.
- While recovering a VM to a specific ESX Server, if the VM
version is not supported by the target ESX Server, the
recover VM operation will fail. (For example, if you back
up a VM with VM Version 8.0 from ESX server 5.0 and then
try to recover to ESX server 4.0/4.1, the recover VM
operation will fail because the VM Version 8.0 is not
supported by ESX server 4.0/4.1).
