Overview

Arcserve ImageManager helps you maintain and manage backup image files and the storage space used by those files. Based on a policy that you create, ImageManager automatically consolidates incremental backup image files into daily, weekly, and monthly incremental images.

With a few exceptions, the following general order of operations can help you understand the process ImageManager uses to protect your data.

1. Verification (Verifying/Re-verifying Image file integrity).
2. Consolidation (Creating new consolidated image files to replace the intra-daily and other image points-in-time).
3. Replication (Sending and processing the data offsite and/or to a secondary Destination/Drive).
4. Retention (Cleanup of the image files that are no longer needed, as defined by the retention policy, after all other processes are done with them).

The exceptions include nuances such as:

• Replication is an ongoing process immediately after an image is verified and meets the Replication Mode set in the Replication Configuration.
• Consolidation happens during daily processing.
• Files don’t need to be re-verified before being consolidated or replicated.
