Creating Key Files

Key Files allow you to store passwords for encrypted backup images.

Using a key file lets you delegate the creation and storage of encrypted backup image files without losing control of the passwords. For example, you can configure ImageManager to collapse encrypted files without having access to the passwords.

Key files can be created with menu or command line options. They are identified by a .spk file extension. The key file prefix matches the name of the associated full backup file. The KeyFileMaker tool is installed when you install ImageManager. This tool allows you to re-create lost or corrupted Key Files.

Note: ShadowProtect automatically generates a new Key File each time it creates a new full backup with encryption activated.
