Which 10GbE cards are used and what SFP+ modules are supported?
OneXafe models use Intel 10-Gigabit SFP+ and BASE-T NICs, With BASE-T NICs, please ensure that high quality Cat6e cables are used to minimize dropped packets.
Organizations may select fiber optic cabling or DAC (direct attach cable) for use with SFP+ NICs. For supported modules to use with the switch ports,.consult with your switch manufacturer to ensure the transceiver and cables types are supported before use with OneXafe.
OneXafe 4412, 4417, 5410
To use optical modules with OneXafe, the OneXafe 4412, 4417, and 5410 models use Intel x710 SFP+. The four supported optical modules are listed below. Others may work but these are the supported optical modules.
Dell SFP+ SR Optic, 10GbE
Dell SFP+ LR Optic, 10GbE
Intel Ethernet SFP SR Optics | E10GSFPSR |
Intel Ethernet SFP LR Optics | E10GSFPLR |
Admins also have the option to use DAC with the x710. Any SFP+ passive or active limiting direct attach copper cable, that complies with the SFF-8431 v4.1 and SFF-8472 v10.4 specifications may be used. SFF-8472 identifier must have value 03h (SFP or SFP Plus). You can verify the value with the cable manufacturer. The maximum cable length for passive cables is 7 meters.
OneXafe 5210
OneXafe 5210 uses dual port Intel x520 SFP+. Dell and Intel are the two supported vendors for use with the OneXafe ports. Each vendor has SR and LR options for the x510. Please ensure the correct module is purchased as there are differences between x710 and x520 compatibility.
For DAC compatibility, refer to the OneXafe 4412, 4417, 5410 paragraph above.
OneXafe 4512
Transceivers that work with the Intel X710 and Netgear switches are:
Avago/Broadcom AFBR-709SMZ 850 nm GBIC | At both ends of an orange fiber |
Intel FTLX8571D3BCVIT1 850 nm GBIC | At both ends of an orange fiber |
Amphenol 3.0M twinax cable P/N NDBBDA-C103 | (captive GBICs) |
Note: Ask your vendor for GBIC/transceivers that work with both the Intel based network ports and with your brand of LAN switch ports.
OneXafe 4312
OneBlox 4312 uses dual ported Intel 82599EB 10GbE SFP+. For the SFP+ card, Intel uses the MAUI interface with additional usage of low speed interface pins (SDP, I2C and MDIO I/Os). The SPF+ card supports a connection to transceiver modules compliant with the following Multi Source Agreements (MSAs): SFP+ — SFF-8431 Specifications for Enhanced 8.5 and 10 Gigabit Small Form Factor Pluggable Module SFP+ rev 1.0.
