Run HIR as a Standalone Utility

To Run HIR as a Standalone Utility, follow these steps:

  1. Complete the steps for restoring a backup image (see Restoring a System Volume).
  2. In Recovery Environment, select HIR Configuration in the Tools menu.
  3. Note: HIR verifies the existing ShadowProtect license on the restored volume. If this license isn't current, HIR asks for an authentication code to continue. STC Support can provide this temporary code to perform the HIR. This code expires after 24 hours.
  4. Select the restored boot volume.
  5. Click Start.

HIR runs and prepares the restored volume to be bootable on the new system.

Before Rebooting

After running HIR, and booting into Windows, you should install any required device drivers for the new environment. You should also install VM guest tools (if applicable and needed) before rebooting the machine. This is especially important if you are using RAID controller drivers, or machines that were restored from a machine originally on a RAID. This will prevent problems on subsequent attempts to boot which could otherwise happen because of driver issues.

Important! Failure to do this can result in a BSOD during boot that cannot be corrected with HIR. If you encounter this BSOD, it can only be fixed with another full restore of the OS volume.
