Install the ShadowControl Appliance
Important: If you use DHCP (the *default option) during the deployment/install process, you will need to change the configuration after the installation is complete. See the DHCP to Static IP Configuration instructions for additional details.
To install the ShadowControl appliance, follow these steps:
- Download the ShadowControl Appliance Builder installation ISO file from the StorageCraft Trials and Updates web page. If you are using a physical destination for the appliance, burn the ISO to a CD.
- Create the VM with at least 2 CPU cores, 4096 MB Ram, 80 GB hard drive, and make firewall adjustments as needed for all the required communication ports listed above.
- Attach the ShadowControl Appliance .ISO to your VM, or insert the disc into the optical drive of your physical system.
- Boot the virtual or physical machine using the ShadowControl ISO.
- Accept the default language of English for the Ubuntu install.
- Specify the necessary network information to install the ShadowControl appliance: Subnet (e.g., 10.10.30.0/24), address (IP), Gateway, Name servers/DNS, and Search Domain.
- Important: The Install process can take 15 minutes or more as it downloads Linux and Arcserve packages to complete the install. Let the installation continue until the appliance automatically reboots.
- On the Initial Appliance Setup dialog, select Setup a new appliance.
- Follow the steps in the Installation Wizard to:
- Specify a secure password for the superadmin account.
- Define and record the Access Code for this appliance. Arcserve Support may need to use this code later to troubleshoot appliance issues.
Warning! Booting this disc will wipe out the main hard drive and replace it with the ShadowControl Ubuntu OS.
When the ShadowControl appliance installation completes, it displays a login screen. All further configuration occurs through the browser-based ShadowControl console. To access the console, open a browser to https://<;appliance_address> where <appliance_address> is the IP address or host name of the newly installed ShadowControl appliance.
Important: Installation is not complete until the appliance automatically restarts. After installation, you can go to the Appliance Settings page in the ShadowControl console if you need to shut down or manually reboot.
