Host-based Agentless Backup Fails on a Hyper-V Host

Symptom

When you perform the agentless backup on a Hyper-V host, the backup job fails, and the following error occurs:

"Failed to run the backup job. Unable to detect virtual machine [name=VMName, instanceUuid=ASBCED-ABCD-1234-ASBD-ABCDEFGH] in the Hyper-V server or Hyper-V cluster [Servername]."

Solution

This error occurs when the Windows DCOM Server Security feature bypass patch is not installed. As a workaround, install the latest cumulative update for the Windows Server on the following:

• Arcserve UDP Console
• Arcserve UDP Proxy
• Arcserve UDP RPS
• Hyper-V Host

Note: Check whether the patch MS KB5004442 is installed. If not, install the patch MS KB5004442 on the mentioned Arcserve servers.
