How Windows User Authentication Works
Arcserve Backup Windows User Authentication simplifies Arcserve Backup user management. It lets Windows users log into the Arcserve Backup domain with their Windows user account login information.
Users can log into Arcserve Backup after theArcserve Backup administrator has added the user to the Arcserve Backup database. Any valid Windows user can be added as a user from the User Profile Manager.
Window User Authentication is a two step process. The process is as follows:
- The user must be authenticated in the Windows domain.
- The user must be authenticated in the Arcserve Backup database.
Note: To help ensure that a Windows user account with a blank password can log into Arcserve Backup successfully, you must configure a Windows Security Setting Option.
To help ensure that users that are logged in to Arcserve Backup with a Windows user account that has Arcserve Backup administrative privileges can access database related activities (for example, view the Activity Log, view the Audit Log, monitor jobs, and so on), the Windows user account must be configured as follows:
- The Windows user account must be able to log into Microsoft SQL Server or Microsoft SQL Server Express databases.
- The Windows user account must be assigned the Microsoft SQL Server or Microsoft SQL Server Express SysAdmin role.
