Setup Cannot Uninstall VDDK Drivers

Valid on Windows platforms.

Symptom

After you install the agent, a message similar to the following appears on the Installation Summary screen for the Agent for Virtual Machines:

Setup was unable to update the VDDK driver. The agent, and any previously installed release of the agent, was uninstalled from your computer. To correct this problem, uninstall VDDK from your computer and then reinstall the agent.

Solution

This problem occurs only when Setup cannot uninstall the VDDK driver that is installed on the agent node. As a result, Setup uninstalls the current release of the agent and, if a previous release of the agent was installed on the node, Setup uninstalls the previous release of the agent from the node. To correct this condition, uninstall VMware VDDK from the node manually and then reinstall the agent. To uninstall VDDK, do the following:

  1. Open Windows Add or Remove Programs and do one of the following:

Note: If you cannot uninstall VDDK using one of these approaches, open Windows Command Line and execute the following command:

    sc delete vstor2-mntapi10-shared

  2. After the command completes, restart the node.
  3. Install the agent on the node.
