Enterprise Tape Library 3494: Drives Cannot be Mapped to the Library

Symptom

Drives cannot not be mapped to the library.

Note: This problem is specific to the Enterprise Option for IBM 3494.

Solution

The reason for drives not being mapped to the library could be a registry entry, named Device Name.

To determine if drives are mapped

  1. Click Settings, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Computer Management, Device Manager.
  2. Locate the IBM tape drives that are connected to the server from Enterprise Tape Library 3494.
  3. If the tape drives appear under Other Drives, then you must download and install the latest device drivers for the tape drives from the IBM website.
