Troubleshooting

This section contains some common problems that you might encounter while using Arcserve Backup. Click on any of the following to see possible solutions:

• Difficulty writing information to, or reading information from, Media
• Experiencing slow backup and restore rates
• Unable to see storage devices
• Having trouble with one of the storage devices
• Portmapper Conflicts with Arcserve Backup

Most of the problems that you might encounter, especially if you are using SCSI host adapters, will be hardware related. Therefore, the troubleshooting focuses on solving hardware and media problems.

Two important points to consider when tracking down hardware problems:

• Make sure your hardware is functional. This includes the host adapter card, the cables, and the storage device itself. If you can, test your hardware by connecting it to a system that you know works.
• Make sure the hardware is configured properly. This includes setting the proper switches on the controller card (according to the manufacturer's instructions) and making sure the SCSI bus is terminated properly at both ends.
• Check the CDC (Link).
• Check for updated SCSI Drivers.
