Tape Library Option - Overview

The Tape Library Option allows you to back up large amounts of data to media libraries.

A library is a device containing one or more media drives with an automated media delivery system such as a robotic picker that allows large amounts of data to be backed up without manual intervention. A library consists of:

• a magazine or bin, where one or more groups of storage media (such as tape) are stored.
• a robotic picker which moves the media units between the magazine slots and the drives.
• one or more drives, which transfer (back up or restore) data between your computer and the storage media.

A library can contain one or more storage drives, and from one to several hundred magazines. Smaller libraries are sometimes referred to as autochangers or changers. The term "library" refers to libraries of any size.
