To back up tablespaces from an online or offline database, you must configure the database for automatic archiving.
Note: For an Oracle 10g and 11g database, Oracle enables automatic archiving after you start archivelog mode. For all other databases, you must follow all the appropriate steps in this section to enable automatic archiving.
