Volume Configuration Example

The tape volume assignments determine the volume configuration for the logical user-defined library on each CA ARCserve Backup server. In the following example, a unique set of tape volumes defines the logical library for each CA ARCserve Backup server:

The example shows that the Enterprise Tape Library 3494 has four tape drives directly attached to several backup servers on the network. The unique tape volume assignments for each CA ARCserve Backup server are:

• Server A has six assigned tape volumes: MKT686, MKT710, MKT713, MKT547, MKT016, and MKT 980
• Server B has eight assigned tape volumes: MK1970, MK1963, MKT002, MKT355, MKT774, MKT345, MKT657, and MKT114
• Server C has four assigned tape volumes: MKT384, MKT674, MKT962, and MKT031

Another backup server on the network that is not running CA ARCserve Backup may have a different configuration. Other backup servers on the network can also share the Enterprise Tape Library 3494.
