Using Microsoft SQL Server Writer on a Windows Server 2012 in AlwaysOn Availability Groups Environments

When using Microsoft SQL Server Writer for physical or virtual nodes on a Windows Server 2012 in AlwaysOn Availability Groups (SQL Server) environments, consider the following scenarios:

Physical-Active nodes:

• When the data for SQL Server instances is configured as AlwaysOn Availability Groups, the node follows the same behavior as that of non-cluster environments.
• The data for the SQL Server is visible. You can back up the data from the SQL Server writer from the Active Node.

Physical-Passive nodes:

• When the data for SQL Server instances is configured as AlwaysOn Availability Groups, the SQL instances become visible. However, you cannot back up the instances. Optionally, you can back up only the SQL Server instances that are not configured as AlwaysOn Availability Groups.

Virtual nodes:

• When the data for SQL Server instances is configured as AlwaysOn Availability Groups, the SQL Server instances become visible. However, you cannot back up the instances.
