Non-Transportable VSS Backup and Restore SQL Server 2005

A non-transportable SQL Server 2005 Writer session can be restored in the same way as any other Writer session. For a description of the types of restore available in the Restore Manager, see Restore Methods.

For a non-transportable SQL Server 2005 Writer backup, because all of the data is in a single session, the whole Writer can be selected for restore if the whole Writer was selected during the backup operation.

When you use the Agent for Open Files and select the SQL Server 2005 Writer for backup, all of the data is written to a single session on the backup media. To restore the whole SQL Server 2005 Writer, select only that one session to restore all the data. If there is more than one database, all data for the databases is in one session.
