Clean Tape Drive Heads Option

Use this option to clean the heads of any drive in your library. You must install and license the Arcserve Backup Tape Library Option, and you must have a cleaning tape installed in the tape cleaning slot you specified during setup to utilize this option.

Note: Arcserve Backup reserves a slot for the tape-cleaning media. In most cases, the tape-cleaning media should be installed in the last slot. However, some libraries (such as certain EXABYTE and ADIC libraries) use slot 1. Refer to your library's documentation to determine the slot in which you should install your tape-cleaning media.

Follow these steps to clean your drive heads:

  1. Click Clean Tape Head.

The Clean Tape Head dialog appears.

  2. Highlight the drives whose heads you want to clean.

Note: Library drives that are offline or marked as defective do not appear in the list. In addition, libraries display in this list if they are marked offline dynamically because the tape engine determined that the drive needs to be cleaned, but there was no cleaning media available.

  3. Click OK.
