Unable to Open Report Writer

Valid on Windows platforms.

Symptom

When you open Report Writer from the Manager Console, the following message appears:

You must be logged in to Windows using an account with administrative privileges to open Report Writer. For more information, see the Arcserve Backup documentation.

Solution

This problem occurs when you log in to the Arcserve Backup server using a domain user account that is not a member of an administrative group. If you apply caroot equivalence to the account, you can open the manager console, however, you cannot open Report Writer.

The solution to this problem is to allow the domain user account to join an administrative group. However, if you do not want to allow the user account to join an administrative group, complete the following alternative solution:

  1. Log in to the Arcserve Backup server using a Windows administrative account.
  2. Open Windows Registry Editor and browse to the following key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer

  3. Edit the permissions for this key by doing the following:
    1. Right-click Internet Explorer and click Permissions on the pop-up menu.

The Permissions for Internet Explorer dialog opens.

    2. Add the user account and allow Full Control for this key.
    3. Close all dialogs and then log off.
  4. Log in to the Arcserve Backup server using the domain user account.

    Open the manager console.

    Open Report Writer.

    Report Writer opens.
