Configure Libraries

Arcserve Backup automatically detects and configures your libraries as the Tape Engine starts. You do not need to run a wizard or other external application to enable Arcserve Backup to detect your libraries.

Note: If Arcserve Backup does not automatically configure your libraries, use Device Configuration to manually configure your libraries.

To configure a library, verify that the following prerequisite tasks are complete:

  1. Install the Arcserve Backup base product.
  2. Install the license for the Arcserve Backup Tape Library Option as required for your environment.
  3. Start the Tape Engine.

    Arcserve Backup automatically detects and configures your libraries.

  4. If you want Arcserve Backup to read the data on the tapes, do the following:
    1. Open Arcserve Backup Device Manager
    2. Browse to and select the library.
    3. Click Inventory on the toolbar.

    Arcserve Backup reads the tapes.

To configure libraries

  1. Open the Device Manager window and browse to the library.

    Right-click the library and select Library Properties from the pop-up menu.

    The Library Properties dialog opens.

  2. Click the General tab.

    Modify the following General options as required for your library:

  3. Click the Cleaning tab.

    Modify the following Cleaning options as required for your library:

    Library Options dialog: Clean by Barcode field.

    Note: The asterisk is a wildcard character.

    Click OK.

    The cleaning slots are set based on their bar code prefix.

    Examples:

    The library is configured.
