Open files can cause significant problems when backing up data. Arcserve Backup provides two solutions for dealing with open files:
VSS works with Arcserve Backup and VSS-aware applications and services to create shadow copies of the volumes on your computer. A shadow copy is a frozen view (a snapshot) of a volume's file system; it resides on a volume separate from the one that was copied. The shadow copy serves as the source for the backup after it is created.
