How the Backup Process Works
The backup process consists of the following steps:
- The user sends a request to Arcserve Backup.
- Arcserve Backup forwards the request to the agent.
- The agent communicates with the server using the database API to perform the dump on a particular database or log.
- The server returns the data from the database to the agent buffer, one chunk at a time.
- The agent receives the data from its buffer and transfers it to Arcserve Backup.
- Arcserve Backup writes the data to the media device depending on the selected backup destination.
Arcserve Backup repeats this process until it backs up the entire selected database or log files. The agent and the Sybase Adaptive Server dump function help to ensure the consistency and accuracy of the database and transaction log backup.
