From the Backup Manager, you assign Arcserve UDP servers to Arcserve UDP Proxy Servers object in the Backup Manager Source tree. When you assign UDP servers to the UDP Proxy Servers object, Arcserve Backup backs up all of the backup sessions for all UDP servers using one proxy server. In addition, when Arcserve Host-Based VM Backup is installed on the UDP proxy, Arcserve Backup backs up the backup sessions for all virtual machines running UDP that are assigned to the proxy server.
Arcserve Backup performs full backups of UDP backup sessions when UDP servers are assigned to the UDP Proxy Servers object. The Arcserve Backup backup sessions can then be used to perform full system recovery operations, such as bare metal recovery (BMR).
Note: To assign Arcserve UDP servers to Arcserve UDP proxy servers, Windows Remote Registry service must be running on the Arcserve UDP node.
Follow these steps:
From the Quick Start menu, click Backup to open the Backup Manager.
The Source tree appears.
The Add UDP Proxy Server dialog opens.
Note: To specify the IP address, clear the checkmark next to the Use computer name resolution option.
Click OK.
The Add UDP Proxy Server dialog closes and the newly added Arcserve UDP proxy server appears in the Source tree. If you specified This is a Host-Based Agentless Proxy, Arcserve Backup adds the Host-Based Agentless Proxy server to the Arcserve UDP Proxy Servers object and populates the proxy server with the host names of the virtual machines that are associated with the newly added proxy server.
The Assign UDP Server to a Proxy Server dialog opens.
Note: If the Arcserve UDP proxy server is a Arcserve Host-Based VM Backup proxy server, you cannot assign individual VMs directly to the proxy server.
Note: To specify the IP address, clear the checkmark next to the Use computer name resolution option.
Click OK.
The Assign UDP Server to a Proxy Server dialog closes.
The Arcserve UDP server is assigned to the Source tree below the Arcserve UDP proxy server.
Note: Arcserve Backup does not support browsing the drives and directories within Arcserve UDP servers after they are added to the Source tree.
